Maple Leafs get good news regarding F Auston Matthews

Talk about a sigh of relief.

Michael Whitaker

The entirety of the Toronto Maple Leafs fan base held their breath on Monday night against the Carolina Hurricanes after superstar forward Auston Matthews departed the game late in the 3rd period following a high hit to the head; he didn't return.

Following the game, which was ultimately a 4-3 win for the host leafs, head coach Sheldon Keefe did not have any update on Matthews' condition, and said that he'd need to be evaluated over a period of a few days.

However, the Leafs may have already gotten their answer regarding his health. Matthews was present at practice this morning, and didn't look any worse for wear:

Of course, during the game, Matthews continued his offensive tear, scoring his 30th goal of the season by blasting the puck from the high slot past his former teammate and good buddy Fredrik Andersen:

The Leafs travel to northern Canada to take on the Calgary Flames tomorrow night, starting at 9:00 PM EST.
